Polina's husband was killed trying to escape from prison, and left her alone with six kids. To make ends meet, she and the boys formed a successful folk-music group. But as the group's popularity waned, Mama took a desperate measure: seeking a better life for her sons, she tried to highjack a plane headed for overseas. Fifteen years later Polina comes out of prison to learn that life has scattered her kids all over Russia: one is fighting in a civil war, another (Yevgeny Mironov) is a small-town hustler, and the oldest is still in a mental hospital, where he's been living all those years pretending to be insane. So Mama gathers her sons in Moscow to plan the oldest brother's rescue. Based on a true story.
