Two college boys go to a party, meet a couple of girls and start dating. The first pair of lovers have a lot in common and an apartment where they can meet, which leads to a quick marriage. The love of the two main characters is complicated not only by personal, religious and family differences, but by social forces that necessitate the girl's urgent departure for Israel.

The lead in Love made a star of the young Yevgeny Mironov. The picture itself, as viewed from the present, turns out to be the only film of its time that goes beyond the glitzy façade of racketeers and "New Russians" to show the reality of everyday life during perestroika.

Yevgeny Mironov's recognition for the film:
  • Grand Prix and a special Stars of Tomorrow Film Critics' Award, Geneva International Film Festival, 1992
  • Best Actor Award, Sozvezdie International Film Festival, 1992
  • Best Actor Award, Kinotaur National Film Festival, 1992
  • Best Actor, Film Critics' Award, 1992
