The made-for-TV biography of the great Russian author and philosopher began filming in October 2009. The shooting took place in Germany, Italy, St. Petersburg and Moscow's Mosfilm Studios. The biopic spans an extensive period of Fyodor Dostoyevsky's life, from his repealed death sentence in 1849 through the late 1870s.

The 7-part version of the miniseries was broadcast on the Rossiya Channel in May of 2011. The 8-part version will be shown on the Kultura Channel in the fall.
