In the beginning of WWII, the Russians capture a Nazi spy, who turns out to be a Russian safecracker from the occupied territory. He dies trying to escape. In order to find the other spies involved in the operation, Internal Affairs seeks out the criminal's twin brother, a country schoolteacher, and forces him to cooperate. He takes his brother's place in the German secret-service network and enters into a deadly game. A nuanced performance by Mironov as the twins.
