MOSCOW – Russia's second national film awards of the year, the Nikas, voted Afghan war story 9th Company Best Film of 2005 in a ceremony televised nationwide late Sunday.

... The Nikas' Best Director prize went to Aleksei Gherman Jr. for his 1930s Soviet soccer drama Garpastum.

Yevgeny Mironov was voted Best Actor for his role in 1950s period drama Dreaming of Space, which also claimed the best cinematography prize for Yuri Klimenko.

Best Actress went to Alisa Freindlikh for her part in Konstantin Khudyakov's On Upper Maskovka.

Director Andrei Kravchuk picked up an award for Discovery of the Year for his film The Italian.
