Russia's national film academy voted Andrei Zvyagintzev's critically acclaimed debut Vozvrasheniye (The Return) Best Film of 2003 in its Golden Eagle awards in Moscow. It also won top prize for cinematography, for camera operator Mikhail Krichman. ...

[Vadim] Abdrashytov took the Best Director award for Magnitni buri, and Anatoly Grebnev won Best Screenwriter for Kino pro kino.

Irina Pegova won Best Actress for Progulka. Best Actor went to Yevgeny Mironov for his part in the telefilm The Idiot, a film that also won the prize for Best Made-for-TV Film of 2003.

Best TV Series went to Aleksei Sidorov's popular crime series Brigada (The Brigade), Best Supporting Actress and Actor went to Inna Churikova (The Idiot) and Oleg Yankovsky (Poor, Poor Pavel), respectively. Andrei Petrov won Best Score for Pavel. Best Animated Film was Poltora Kota (Cat and a Half), and Roman Polanski's The Pianist won Best Foreign Film honors.

U.S.-based Czech director Milos Forman was presented with a lifetime achievement award, the first of its kind for the Russian Academy.
