September 27 is one of the most tragic days in the Georgian history, when twelve years ago Georgians fell to pro-Abkhaz forces in Sokhumi and lost control of the region.

On this sad day this year the Amirani Cinema hosted the Georgian premiere of the film House of Fools by the Russian director Andrei Konchalovsky. The visit of the prominent theater and film director together with his wife, actress Iuliya Vysotskaya, was initiated by director Keti Dolidze, with the financial support of businessman Temur Chkonia from Coke Cola-Georgia.

It was no coincidence that House of Fools was shown on September 27, because this movie is a sad and depressing film about the war between Russians and Chechens and the life of mentally ill people in the conflict zone.

The theater and film director at present lives in the United States and stands out from the rest of the Russian intelligentsia with his divergent viewpoints; that is why many in Russia look on Andrei Konchalovsky with suspicion.

"Often the friendly hugs of Russians suffocate others," said the director at a press conference on September 27, continuing that Russia is a tragic country that has lots of problems and that one of the most awful things is that they force people to get rid of their national identity.

""This land is ours, but people living on this land are not ours" – this is the conception of Russians," added Konchalovsky, who then apologized to the media people for his excessive philosophizing.
