Internationally acclaimed director Peter Stein, one of the most influential names in theater today, has taken the Russian, Bulgarian, German and Japanese theater world by storm with his interpretation of Hamlet.

In May, he will lead Russia's top-class actors and backstage team in a highly anticipated performance in Hong Kong.

Stein has a predilection for Greek tragedies and Shakespeare. He believes that theater is about "the truth of the existence of mankind", which is the major theme of those classic works. Over the years, his direction has attained a level of exquisite beauty. His deep understanding of a text, whether it is ancient or not, has motivated his actors to give a truthful and intense performance, which never fails to make a powerful impact on the audience. Stein maintains that live theater is just a platform for such direct communication between the performers and the audience.

With Russia's top-class actors and backstage team from the "International Confederation of Theater Associations (Russia),", Stein is going to show Hong Kong patrons how Hamlet's genuineness, thoughtfulness, and sincerity make him special; how Hamlet chooses not to compromise with evil; and how he reaffirms the tragic dignity of a basically decent person in a bad world. The title role of Hamlet is played by Russian movie star Yevgeny Mironov. He has performed as Ivan Karamazov in The Karamazovs and Hell which awarded him with a national prize. He played in Peter Stein's production of The Oresteia and Declan Donnellan's Boris Godunov. He is an extremely well-known film actor, and has starred in Love, Moslem, Burnt by the Sun, The Inspector General, August of ‘44", The Idiot, etc.
